My friend & senior from PESIT ---Mekin has joined a startup called ugenie. They went online today.
Well here is a brief Summary of the company
Prof. Rajeev Motwani of Stanford University is an advisor to UGenie. Who is Prof. Motwani?? well, his students founded Google.
Former Amazon executives, Harish and Krishna Motukuri founded the start-up in June, funded by VC's Sierra Ventures and BlueRun Ventures.
What's more, they are in the same building, where I work.
Ugenie is an online comparison-shopping tool and a "true price discovery engine" as the founders want to put it.
Another player in this field is TheFind.
The following makes an interesting read on how they do it.
Ugenie brings in two nice features to online shopping:
a)Computing taxes, shipping, discounts, and coupons (even finding coupon codes for you) to compare the actual “credit card damage”
b)Taking your multiple-item shopping list and finding the best way to bundle products across sites to minimize shipping charges and maximize discounts.
But the sad part is it's only for the US :(. Probably Indian market is not large enough for their expectations or might be in their expansion plan.
